How tight should a duvet be around a comforter?

Can you answer kat’s question about Bedding?:

I bought a new king size Duvet and a king size comforter. The duvet seems HUGE compared to the comforter. How do I know if I got a duvet that is too big? Is it okay if the duvet is too big or should I get a twin/queen?

Bedding Feedback: if there are too many flat/empty spots it might look weird and get on your nerves. its okay to have some empty spots (like near the corners usually) but not a lot

Bedding Feedback: Hmm, sounds like the problem I used to have. I bought a king size dawn comforter, and a king size duvet. It didn’t work out. The actual comforter is smaller then the regular king size comforters you buy w/out the duvet. As far as I am concerned, I went and got the duvet exchanged for a Queen size, and it works out perfectly. The comforter should fill up the duvet, they need to match. If it’s bigger, it will look awful, at least I don’t like it at all. The duvet I bought, was for the summer, a little lighter material, then I made my own second duvet, that was exaclty one inch larger then the measures around the comforter, and that works out perfectly as well.
I would go with a Queen size, not a twin-queen. Actually I think the next size down from queen is a full size.
If any doubts, measure the sides of your comforter, and take the numbers with you. When you looks at the measurements they give for the duvet, it should come very close to that, and that’s your best bet!
Good luck, and I am so glad you found the comforter!! :))
Oops, should have mentioned good post! Waiting for your next one!
