Can you answer 393337’s question about Bedding?:

i know there are duvet covers to house my comforter, but why do some people refer to comforters as duvets? does this mean they are the same?

Bedding Feedback: I think its the same think. I tend to call my duvet a blanket even tho it isn’t.
    I assume its like sofa/settee

Bedding Feedback: A comforter is the inside.A duvet is a cover that is removable for the comforter.

Bedding Feedback: Yes i just bought one for my g/f and kept calling it a dove-it. She explained to me real quickly thats its just a fancy word for comforter

Bedding Feedback: No, A duvet is used to protect your comforter.

Bedding Feedback: No they are not the same. The people are just mixing it up. Usually you would put a down comforter or something similiar that isn’t as easily washed (like white) in a duvet so that it can be washed easier. A regular comforter doesn’t need a duvet over it because it can easily be washed and has a pretty pattern on it.

Bedding Feedback: a duvet allows you to protect your comforter from dirt and grime. also a duvet cover is a inexpensive way to update your comforter. there are many different styles and textures to choose from. It all depends on ones personal choices.

Bedding Feedback: No a duvet COVERS the comforter. Like if you want to change the color or the theme.

Bedding Feedback: no, a duvet cover is one piece and can be two pieces but a comforter is padded (filled) and has a back cover.

Bedding Feedback: maybe it’s like the difference between a couch and a sofa (none)

Bedding Feedback: In the movie Fight Club, Brad Pitt’s character uses the two as if they are interchageable. For all practical purposes they are, unless you’re in the hotel business, or specifically looking for one or the other.

Bedding Feedback: No. A duvet cover can cover a comforter. A duvet cover is thin, like two sheets sewn 3/4 of the way together. A comforter is sewn on all 4 sides. A comforter can go inside of a duvet cover for a new look. However, a conforter does not have to be covered up by a duvet cover…it’s up to you.

Bedding Feedback: No, they are not the same. These people are confused. They just like to say “duvet” because it is French and rolls nicely off the tongue, and they want to sound more refined. Comforter is an awkward word, like “rural”. lol
A duvet is to a comforter as a glove is to a hand, or a tablecloth is to a table.

Bedding Feedback: NO, a Duvet is more for decoration kind of like window panel side curtains. The comforter is actually usuable and not to be used for display only.

Bedding Feedback: Most of the reponses are correct, the duvet is like a pillow case for your comforter, their orginal purpose was and still is to cover down comforters that if you have ever noticed come in solid white (cotton)
