Is it possible to dry clean a comforter that had laundry detergent spilled on it?

Can you answer little_chalupa’s question about Bedding?:

I have a comforter that’s supposed to be dry clean only. When transporting it and my other laundry in my trunk, I spilled about a 1/4 of a bottle of laundry detergent onto the comforter. The comforter had other stains on it to begin with (my cat used it as a litterbox). Is it possible to still get the comforter clean, or should I just toss it and buy a new one?
Please keep in mind this comforter is only supposed to be dry cleaned. But I don’t want to lose money on an attempted dry cleaning that was doomed from the get go.

Bedding Feedback: If you’re going to toss it anyway, maybe it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if you just tried washing it to see what would happen…

Your dry cleaner should be able to answer the question about whether dry cleaning would work.

Bedding Feedback: Washing it would be the best bet, since you have already done half the job.
