What is the proper way to set up a bed?

Can you answer Shiina’s question about Bedding?:
Does the fitted sheet (the sheet with the elastic bands and corners) go on the bare mattress first, then another top sheet goes on top of it and that’s it? I use a blanket to cover myself at night, but I keep hearing something about “comforters.” Is it like another blanket, and are there any other things people usually use to set up a bed?

Bedding Feedback: You can do it in this order:
fitted shet
flat sheet
blanket
comforter (which is like a bedspread)
pillows

Bedding Feedback: Yes. The fitted sheet with the elastic goes on the mattress. Next the flat sheet goes on the bed and is tucked in around th foot of the bed and sides. Next the blanket or comforter goes on the bed and the portion of the flat sheet at the head of the bed is folded back over the blanket. A comforter is a type of blanket. Usually, a comforter is a blanket that is has stuffing inside of it kind of like a sleeping bag unzipped and laid flat. There are also a dust ruffle which is a decorative trim that goes under the matress and hangs out over the edge to the floor and covers the box spring. There is also a thing called a Duvet which is essentially a comforter and of course there is a duvet cover which is a decorative cover for the duvet. There are all kinds of pillows and other nonesens that people use to “make” a bed. I would say all you really need is a bottom sheet and a blanket and everything else is a waste of time. Hope this helps.
Bedding Feedback: lol
yeah, fitted sheet, then anything else. a comforter is just a thick blanket.
Bedding Feedback: Usually, you would put a “mattress cover” on top of the mattress to limit soiling the mattress due to a number of bodily functions.
Next the “fitted sheet” over the mattress cover.
Next the “flat sheet”.
Then if you are in a climate that is cool, a “wool” blanket for warmth.
Many will still leave a bedspread or comforter on top. Again, it depends on the climate.
WHERE TO SLEEP? BETWEEN THE TWO SHEETS.
The fitted sheet and flat sheet and pillow cases, are washed “weekly”.
Wool blanket and bedspread/comforter as shaken out for dust when the bedding is changed.
The body loses its’ skin and is trapped in the bedding. Thus, we need to wash the bedding weekly.
Bedding Feedback: Most people choose to include a mattress pad. It is a white quilted cover for the mattress - usually with elastic on the corners like the fitted sheet. It is put on first. The main benefit is to keep body moisture (perspiration, drool, etc.) from staining and ruining the mattress.
Since mattresses are nearly impossible to clean once they’ve become stained, a mattress pad is recommended. If there is the risk of a lot of moisture (children or elderly/disabled wetting the bed, spilling drinks, vomit, medications), a waterproof one is a great investment.
A comforter is a thicker warm cover — in the most basic form, it is two layers of material similar to the sheet, stitched together and stuffed with polyester filling to make it fluffy. The air trapped in the fluff is what provides the warmth without weight. It is sometimes used in addition to a blanket, but is usually enough by itself.
Pillow shams are fancy pillow covers, usually matching the comforter, and are typically NOT slept on. The natural oils from your hair and skin will soil them quickly, and they don’t usually hold up under regular washing.
Wash your mattress pad about once every month or two — more often if stained, soiled, or wet.
Wash sheets and pillow cases about once a week — more if you got to bed sweaty or dirty from work or exercise, or your pets sleep on or in the bed.. (Note - most people will appreciate clean sheets and bedding when they ’sleep over’).
Wash the comforter every few months - more if you eat in bed, lounge there with dirty clothing or shoes, or your pets sleep in the bed.
